Selection of Explosion Protected Equipment

Selection of Explosion Protected Equipment of otherwise known as Explosion Protected Apparatus is a science in its own. Our experienced have shown that equipment is selected on any number of reasons and in some cases the highest certification is used due to a lack of knowledge. Knowledge required includes the Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) done in a professional manner that reduces risk. Secondly the risk has been addressed through proper risk assessments and in some cases risk is so low that money spend on explosion protected equipment (EPE) is not required and can be managed in more cost effective manners.

Selection of EPE is done with the HAC as reference. In itself this presents a problem as area classification drawings are a challenge. We at ExHACT have developed a clear and usable manner of drawings that makes it very easy and ExHACT for the Master Installation Electrician (MIE) to verify and complete the Certificate of Compliance (COC) for the installation.

Selection of equipment includes the certification requirements and also the use of individual equipment in a system.
